Howard Shore to Compose Game Soundtrack

By James Wray Aug 6, 2004, 16:49 GMT

Composer Howard Shore
Webzen Inc. announced today that the next in-house developed blockbuster game will be titled SUN: Soul of the Ultimate Nation, and Howard Shore, the world-renowned film composer who composed the scores for The Lord of the Rings, will join Webzen's project.

Building upon the success factors for MU, Webzen last year began active development of SUN, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). SUN will be first introduced in early 2005 and launched later in the year.

Howard Shore will compose the game music for SUN, and the original soundtrack will be distributed for sale globally.

In addition to his success with the original score for The Lord of the Rings, Mr. Shore has composed for over 25 Hollywood films, including The Silence of the Lambs, Panic Room, and Philadelphia. He received three Academy Awards for his work on The Lord of the Rings in 2001 and 2003 for Best Original Score and Best Song. As one of the most recognized composers in Hollywood, Mr. Shore will be the first to add his musical touch to a game title.

"We are confident that Howard Shore's musical contribution to SUN will greatly enhance the quality of the final product. We will continue to devote our energies into creating the next world-class online game," commented Nam Ju Kim, the Chief Executive Officer of Webzen.
