The Classical BRIT Awards, organised by UK record companies’ trade association the BPI, is an annual event which combines live performances from some of the most highly regarded classical musicians and performers in the world today, with seven specially commissioned awards presented throughout the evening.
These include the awards for Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and Orchestral/Ensemble Album of the Year.
To recognise the growing appreciation of original soundtracks, The Classical BRIT Awards 2005 have added a new category, 'The Soundtrack Composer Award'. All living composers of original soundtracks are eligible for this award. The 600-strong Classical BRIT Awards voting academy will choose the five nominees.
Nominations for the 2005 awards will be announced on 19 April. The Classical BRIT Awards will be broadcast on ITV1 and ITV3.
Tickets for the Classical BRIT Awards are now on sale from the Royal Albert Hall Box Office.
