British composer, Oscar winner Malcolm Arnold dead at 84

London - British composer and Oscar winner Malcolm Arnold, who wrote the theme for The Bridge on the River Kwai, is dead at age 84, according to media reports Saturday.
Arnold won the Oscar in 1958 for the movie, the story of British and American prisoners of war in Japan who are forced to build the bridge.
Arnold wrote more than 130 music themes for films, in addition to seven ballets, nine symphonies and two operas.
He lived in the city of Norwich, and had two sons and a daughter.
