Sony isn’t shopping for a new Spider-Man

Rumors have been flooding the web that Sony was looking at Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous) and several other young actors to replace Tobey Maguire as the new Spider-Man if the studio moves forward on two new Spider-Man films.

The films are rumored to be in development and would be shot back-to-back. They are based on a script by James Vanderbilt.

Several websites have reported producers Laura Ziskin and Grant Curtis have been looking for a new Peter Parker and that Fugit was at the top of a list – which also included The Forbidden Kingdom’s Michael Angarano.

However, Sony Pictures released an official comment which put to the rumors to rest and stated there was no truth to the studio looking for a replacement for Tobey Maguire.
