Sons of Anarchy rides and we take a look at great motorcycle scenes in film

Sons of Anarchy is set to ride to DVD and Blu-ray on August 30th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and comes loaded with special features – such as all-new scenes shot exclusively for the Blu-ray and DVD that bridge season 3 to season 4.

Along with capturing all 13 episodes from another great season of SOA, the DVD and Blu-ray sets will include extended creator’s cut episodes, a writer’s roundtable featurette, gag reel, deleted and extended scenes, commentaries, a table read with the cast, and a bike customizer feature.

The series stars Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman and 2011 Golden Globe Award-winner Katey Sagal in an adrenalized drama about a notorious outlaw motorcycle club intent on protecting Charming, their small Northern California town, against encroaching drug dealers, corporate developers and overzealous law officers.

It’s no secret that the characters in Sons of Anarchy love their motorcycles and ride them 24/7.

Now, Twentieth Century Fox has provided M&C with a list of some of bike and motorcycle greatest scenes in cinema. What do you think of their list? Are there any missing that should have made the cut?

1. The Great Escape

Set in a prisoner of war camp during World War II, the film featured an incredible ensemble cast and was truly epic. Although it focused on the group of soldiers tunneling their way to freedom, the movie is best known for film icon Steve McQueen’s motorcycle escape over Nazi barbwire.

The stunt saw McQueen’s Capt. Hilts (also known as “The Cooler King”) revving a stolen bike to full throttle and jumping rows of barbwire fence.

2. Batman: The Dark Knight

It’s a futuristic car….no, it’s a revolutionary motorcycle! Although Batman’s ride in The Dark Knight doesn’t start out as a bike, it definitely transformed into one of the coolest looking vehicles in movie history, and was showcased during one of the most pivotal scenes in the film.

3. Quadrophenia

Although he may not be as tough as the SAMCRO gang, Jimmy, a young man living in Brighton, can relate to Jax and his cohorts, as he only feels free when he’s with his Mod clique of motor-scooter friends.

The film follows the rivalry between Jimmy’s Mod gang and a group of local street punks called the Rockers, all while featuring great music from The Who, and of course, tons of snazzy bikes.

4. Easy Rider

This film undoubtedly showcases so many aspects about the American motorcycle culture, and makes viewers understand the love and excitement that people have for their bikes. With a soundtrack that includes “Born To Be Wild” and a gorgeous desert background, this film can do no wrong.

5. The Matrix Reloaded

We all know that Trinity has many capabilities, and among them is operating a wide range of vehicles. In this motorbike scene, which comes from The Matrix Reloaded, she brings the Keymaker to safety while dodging oncoming traffic.

It is one of the most fact-paced scenes that not only showcases the power of the Ducati bike, but also gives a good dose of the classic Matrix-esque physics as well.

6. The Wild One

Johnny Strabler (Marlon Brando) is the leader of the Black Rebels Motorcycle Club who happens upon a small California town and instantly is the source of trouble and intimidation. The actions of the gang escalate even further when the Beetles, a group who has split off from the Black Rebels, arrive in town.

This film not only boasted fantastic motorcycle scenes, but also upped the demand for black leather “Brando” style biker jackets.
