PARIS – Filmmaker Sofia Coppola has given birth to a daughter, her first born. The child has been named Romy, in a statement from Coppola’s spokesman, Robert Garlock.
On Tuesday the baby was delivered in Paris to Coppola and boyfriend, Thomas Mars, singer for the French rock band Phoenix, said Garlock.
“Mother, father and daughter are all doing well,” he told The Associated Press.
Coppola won a best screenplay Oscar for 2003’s Lost in Translation, which she also directed. Her latest effort is Marie Antoinette.
Coppola is the daughter of director Francis Ford Coppola, sister of Roman Coppola and the late Gian-Carlo Coppola, niece of Talia Shire and a cousin of Nicolas Cage, and Jason Schwartzman and Robert Carmine-Schwartzman.
Sofia also played the baby “boy” in her first acting role back in the original Godfather christening scene.
