A funny thing happens when people you know start messing with their faces and bodies.
The sell job done by staff and doctors have many convinced they look great, and in doing so they set the patient, already predisposed to make drastic changes, up for even more "procedures."
I have a well-to-do friend who has had over 13 "procedures" done so far, and she isn't even 50 yet. She looks the same age, but weirder.
The oddness that occurs when people inject fillers and botox into their faces is hard to describe, but you know it when you see it (cough cough Christa Miller, Lisa Rinna, Priscilla Presley...)
This Oxygen reality show will bring my point home. The premiere of a new dramatic "comedy", "Addicted to Beauty," airs on Tuesday nights beginning tonight, August 4. The premise revolves around a plastic surgery and spa business in Southern California that was born out of an acrimonious divorce and revenge one-upmanship.
There is plenty of scripted "drama" fabricated to make the cartoonish spa employees (the gay men are not just gay, they are super Queens, the women are all arch bitches) who have to learn to deal with personality clashes, egos and chaos as they navigate the beauty enhancement business.
Read: Silly men who say fabulous way too much, dick around with their hair while working way too much, and overpoofed women (breasts and lips) who stare daggers at each other while playing power grab office politics.
It's a good time!
If you love silliness, catfights, ridiculous situations and seeing what horrors plastic surgery can wreak, you will eat this one up with a spoon.
The scene of the reality crime: Changes Plastic Surgery. Divorcee and Queen Bee Dianne York-Goldman, socialite and marketing expert, has brought her over-the-top employees from her previous spa to help with this new venture with well-known plastic surgeon Dr. Gilbert Lee.
From Oxygen:
The staff includes: Gary, the flamboyant (understatement) and outspoken (bitchy)receptionist; Ronnie, the eccentric concierge; (put upon martyr) Natasha, Dianne's levelheaded assistant and (bitch on wheels) Shannyn, the whip cracking spa manager.
Melanie (aka, "Mel"), Dr. Lee's no nonsense (menopausal and mean) office manager who is not afraid of giving out tough love.
So, you can guess what transpires in this artificial luxe setting; we have a workplace where staged "antics" make the day whiz by. If you love this sort of thing, the show will serve as a fun diversion.
Natasha has to pick up Gary's front desk slack, Ronnie is completely averse to having Shannyn as his boss and Mel becomes fed up with the incompetency of Dianne's staff. Overall, the politics of beauty are ugly indeed.
The first of eight one-hour episodes of Addicted to Beauty debuts at a special time Tuesday, August 4 at 11pm ET/PT, with remaining episodes airing in its regular timeslot, Tuesdays at 10pm ET/PT beginning Tuesday, August 11.
“Obsession with beauty is addictive to watch and “Addicted to Beauty” gives our audience a vicarious glimpse into that fascinating world,” said Introcaso-Davis, Senior Vice President of Programming and Development for Oxygen.
