I saw this documentary on the history channel and I thought that it was fascinating. It was very well done and chronicled the biggest natural disaster to hit our country. Many people (including myself) know little about it. I had no idea that the effects were so far reaching and destructive.
I didn't see the documentory. I wish I Had. I'm nearly 75 and I LIVED through the Lane County, Kansas dust storm. My aunt owned a ranch there and my parents took me from Ottowa Co, Ks to live there and help her with her Angus herd of cattle.
Mother said she put me in my crib and covered it with a wet sheet to keep me from smothering. I still got dust Pnemonia and nearly died and have the scar in my rt. side where the Dr. put a drain for weeks.
They had to tie ropes from house to barn, and house to the outhouse so they would not be lost . She had to shovel dirt from the old stone house with scoop shovels every morning. The chickens were suffocating and the cows stopped giving milk.
There is so much more but I can't recall it all, now.

This helped me with my project on the dust bowl thanks for telling me about it.
I saw this program last fall and was fascinated. I ended up researching the 'dirty thirties'. The program is rerunning right now and I'm watching it again.
I enjoyed reading this alot. It really helped me with my report
Thanks, April MacIntyre
