Alexander Payne will direct HBO's noir comedy "Hung."

HBO has given the greenlight for the pilot. The project has been on the fast-track sonce the announcement of HBO Entertainment president, Sue Naegle.

"Hung" will be Payne's (Sideways) first directing assignment for the smallscreen, reports Variety.

The series was created by Colette Burson and "The Riches" creator, Dmitry Lipkin.

Variety reports that Payne will also serve as executive producer, along with Burson, Lipkin, Blueprint's Michael Rosenberg, Noreen Halpern and John Morayniss.

The premise of "Hung" is what it seems, a physically gifted man going about his life as a father and high school coach, who once was a high school sports legend.  He regains his luck when he figures out a way to use his manly asset.

"Think of him like Spider-Man," Burson told Daily Variety.. "He's an average guy who gets in touch with his innate superpowers."
