Larry Charles is reported to be in talks with 20th Century Fox to direct Sasha Baron Cohen's (Ali G) mockumentary Borat.
Variety says Charles would replace Todd Philips who walked off the production earlier in the year.
The show involves Cohen going to cover various events as a Kazakhstan reporter his outrageous views and the fact most of the participant think no- one will see it make for some interesting viewing.
Earlier this year Cohen's character in the show was invited to sing the American national anthem at a rodeo event in the US.
He started by telling the assembled crowd "I hope you kill every man, woman and child in Iraq, down to the lizards ... And may George W. Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq."
Cohen then launched into a bizarre version of the song.
The local paper in Roanoke (where the rodeo took place) reported that the audience turned "downright nasty" and that they thought Cohen was lucky nobody shot him!
Borat and his crew had to be escorted out of the building and were asked not to return.
Philips left the show shortly after.
