BBC Regrets Doctor Who Gaffe
By James Wray Apr 5, 2005, 13:29 GMT
The BBC has been forced to apologize for incorrectly attributing quotes to Christopher Eccleston over his decision not to continue his role as the new Doctor Who.
It seems the corporation failed to speak to Eccleston before breaking the new he would not be returning for a second series.
They issued a statement where they quoted the actor as saying he thought he might be typecast if he continued the role as well as quoting him as saying "he hoped viewers continued to enjoy the series."
The BBC now says they regret not consulting with Eccleston before responding to press questions about the casting and that they broke the agreement with him no to reveal the news of his decision regards the second series.
The new series debuted to a warm critical reception and high ratings. This led the BBC to announce a second series and a Christmas special, on top of the 13 episodes already filmed for series one.
The most likely replacement is David Tennant who stars in the new BBC drama Casanova, which will air shortly.
