Singer Vanessa Carlton (“A Thousand Miles”) speaks exclusively for the first time about her recent surgery due to an ectopic pregnancy and her diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), on THE DOCTORS, airing Tuesday, December 3rd (check your local listings).

The singer-songwriter recently announced her pregnancy as she was beginning a tour and then a few weeks later, abruptly cancelled a number of tour dates, posting a letter on her Facebook page that she had emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. Speaking publicly for the first time since the surgery, Carlton explained her shock over what happened. “I have PCOS, which is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and I was told by a doctor that maybe I couldn’t even conceive, so I was thinking it would maybe be a year before I could even conceive and it happened in a month, so in that sense it was a real surprise for us,” explained the singer.

Carlton also explained that she felt it was important to speak about her experience because, “I’d never even heard of what an ectopic pregnancy was, until it happened to me and I felt like I was just so desperate to hear about other women’s experiences with it.”

Tune in to THE DOCTORS, Tuesday, December 3rd (check your local listings) for the full interview, including a discussion with Dr. Isabel Blumberg, OB/GYM, who performed Carlton’s surgery, and Dr. Jennifer Ashton explains what exactly happens in an ectopic pregnancy.
