The documentary 'Rihanna 777' is set to air on Fox on May 6, taking fans inside the highly publicized tour that had 200 journalists along for the ride.
If you read some of their accounts, it wasn't exactly a dream come true.
Only a select group of fans got to join Rihanna on her highly-publicized 777 Tour last November. The resulting doc titled "Rihanna 777," is set to premiere on Fox on May 6, and offers an edited "insider" look at the one-week trip the singer used to promote her chart-topping album release, Unapologetic.
Rihanna took journalists and fans in a plane on a worldwide adventure - Mexico City, Toronto, Stockholm, Paris, Berlin, London and New York - to promote the release. But the accounts reveal the reporters spent more time onthe tarmac and in airports than actually immersing themselves in the full city by city experience.
According to RollingStone.com's embedded Rihanna journalist:
"While making the trip from Berlin to London, the passengers were delayed for hours on the tarmac and resulting in what one writer called 'bedlam,' including one journalist who streaked. It was a cunning idea to invite 200 journalists to cover this event, because – if it goes well – that's seven straight days of wall-to-wall positive coverage by 150 outlets. But when it doesn't work, it's a big risk. After four and a half days, it's somewhere between a wasted opportunity and living in Rihanna jail. If this whole thing is Rihanna's idea, as she so claims, then you'd think she'd put in the effort to make it work: she could get on the microphone, or do something to make us feel like she's on the same plane as us, to differentiate one day from another."
