Based on Marc’s life and successful WTF podcast (www.wtfpod.com), each half hour episode chronicles Marc’s day-to-day struggle to maintain relationships other than the ones with his podcast audience and his beloved trio of cats.
Marc stars as himself, and joining him is Judd Hirsch as his father, Nora Zehetner as his girlfriend, Andy Kindler as his loyal friend and Josh Brener as Marc’s assistant.
Notable guest stars who will be appearing throughout the season include Mark Duplass, Illeana Douglas, Dave Foley, Jeff Garlin, Gina Gershon, Bobcat Goldthwait, Ken Jeong, Denis Leary, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Eric Stoltz and Danny Trejo.
In this debut season, Marc upsets any balance in his life with everything from a visit from his dysfunctional father living in an RV to complicated feelings about his ex-wife and various attempts at dating that continue to challenge his ability to commit.
Yet his compulsive need for human connection is only matched with his uncanny ability to make disastrous choices. Consequences of which always end up as fodder for his popular WTF podcast. Whether dating a dominatrix, sponsoring a recently sober ex-con or tracking down an internet troll who blasts him on Twitter, all of Marc’s life experiences are met with his unique brand of cynicism, self-obsession and heart.
"The role of Maron was complicated and challenging. I feel like I spent a lifetime preparing for it. I was definitely immersed in the character. I still am, actually. I don’t think I can get out. I think that's what the show is about,” Marc Maron commented.
Marc Maron is the creator, executive producer and writer of Maron. Apostle’s Denis Leary and Jim Serpico are also executive producers, along with Michael Jamin, Sivert Glarum, Duncan Birmingham and Olivia Wingate.
Maron is produced for IFC by Fox Television Studios. Series’ directors include Academy Award®-winner Luke Matheny, who is a co-executive producer, Bobcat Goldthwait, and Robert Cohen.
Marc’s upcoming memoir, Attempting Normal, will be released by Spiegel & Grau, an imprint of Random House Publishing Group, on April 30. Available wherever books are sold.
