On the heels of Joy Behar's announced exit from the ABC morning chatter "The View," it is now reported that conservative eye roller Elisabeth Hasselbeck is being asked to leave the show based on her views which were reportedly "too extreme and right wing."
The buzz is that Ivy league educated actress Brooke Shields, not someone we think of for this kind of entertainment, is the frontrunner replacement.
Hasselbeck, one of the five cohorts of ABC's daytime talk show The View, is out for next season, after Joy Behar appears to be moving onward to CNN, a source tells Us Weekly.
According to the Us Weekly source, Hasselbeck's voice was determined by market research to be unpopular with TV audiences.
"The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing," the insider tells Us. "People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed."
Hasselbeck, 35, joined the cast of the daytime talk show in November 2003 replacing Lisa Ling, who left in 2002.
Famous fights for Hasselbeck include an epic screamfest with Rosie O'Donnell in 2007 over the Iaq/Afghanistan war and with Barbara Walters over Mitt Romney in 2012.
Shields graduated from Princeton University, and has worked on and off in film and television for years.
Roger Friedman of Showbiz411 reports that Shields appears to be an "excellent" choice.
Perhaps Barbara Walters and company can spice things up with a new voice that will have a more rounded world view than Shields, who isn't known for her witty repartee. The show is sorely lacking in an American-Latin perspective on the news that is hashed over coffee and guest stars.
