NBC's "Grimm" is back this Friday, and cast members Bitsie Tulloch and Sasha Roiz spoke to reporters on the phone yesterday about their complicated arc that will see some exciting love scenes this new season.
On their favorite episdes from Grimm's past:
Bitsie Tulloch: From Season 1 I really like the episode Game Ogre just because that was sort of the first time Juliette was inadvertently drawn into the fray in a sort of physical way. I think it was Episode 10 or something.
And I also liked from Season 1 the thing with feathers, which is the one where Nick and Juliette go away for the weekend to that romantic cabin and all hell breaks loose. And again, I think one of the reasons I like it is because she ends up, you know, having to hunt down and sort of save Nick.
And then thereís been a lot of great stuff from Season 2 but I would say from Season 2 so far my favorite episode is the one thatís going to premiere - or going to air on Friday night.
Sasha Roiz: Yes, I would agree, the one that airs Friday night is pretty amazing and itís got something for every character so I think that is really what appeals to me is when everybodyís kind of featured and thereís such high stakes.
I think from Season 1 is probably Three Coins ... I believe itís called because it was the first time we get a sense or a glimpse into the Captain and some of his personal life and some of his ambitions. So that was a lot of fun for me.
On Sasha's character's showdown with Nick:
Sasha Roiz: I was actually surprised itís as soon as it is. I thought it could even be dragged out until the end of the season. But Iím really glad that itís happened. Iím really glad that we had a chance to finally confront each other because I think itís something the fans had been waiting for a long time. And we - as characters and actors had been waiting for as well.
So yes, I donít think itís a moment too soon.
On Bitsie's acting challenges:
Bitsie Tulloch: Yes, absolutely. I mean in Season 2 Iíve had a lot of - Iíve had so much more to do with her which is not to knock the storyline from Season 1 because - at the beginning of Season 1 this guy who Iíve been dating, who I loved, he lost basically the woman who raised her.
I know a lot of fans were sort of saying how can she be so naÔve, how is she not seeing this, but she was just being really understanding and sensitive to Nickís situation.
But waking up in Season 2 in a coma and then having just this big empty hole where this man once lived is - has been sort of crazy and I have to say you have not seen the worst of it. What goes on with Juliette gets much worse before it gets better. So theyíre just sort of starting to lay out whatís going to happen the rest of Season 2.
So as an actress itís definitely been so much fun for me to really go into these deep dark depths of the character and her mental space. And sheís really starting to lose it kind of.
I mean as you can imagine itís crazy to wake up and see pictures of this guy - this stranger all over your house and be told that, you guys were going to get married and all this stuff and you have no recollection whatsoever.
And then all of a sudden sheís lusting after someone she barely knows and canít control herself. I mean itís enough to make anybody mad. So thatís been a lot of - thatís been fun for me.
On how far Juliette and Renardís relationship will go?
Bitsie Tulloch: Well, what happens on Friday night weíve not see the likes of on Grimm so far. I think itís really fun and I think itís just a great way to sort of deal with whatís going on between the two of them and also to highlight how little control they have over it, that this is not some - slow burning love .... they canít control the lust.
And obviously it gets to a sort of violent place and neither of them is really wanting this to happen, they canít help it.
Obviously Sashaís character understands more of whatís going on coming from that world and Juliette is just like all right, well, I guess par for the course, Iím already losing my mind.
Sasha Roiz: Yes, will they be surprised? I think theyíve seen it escalate and this will be a great payoff I believe. Itís fun, itís fun to explore new ground, new territory with Grimm. Itís almost like Grimm after dark, a little - you know, racier version. So I think theyíll be pleased and itís a good payoff after this long hiatus.
On the physical sex scene coming up:
Bitsie Tulloch: It took so long because we had to have a stunt coordinator sort of help us out, particularly me. Iím not - Iím sort of known among the cast members of being like - I donít know, Sasha, what would you say?
Sasha Roiz: Sheís a little clumsy.
Bitsie Tulloch: Yes, and that love scene also got edited down massively but when we were actually shooting it, it took something like eight-and-a-half hours to get through which is incredibly long for basically one scene because it was so complicated and it did require such coordination.
Sasha Roiz: That said, Bitsie always want a stunt coordinator there when she has a love scene so who knows.
Bitsie Tulloch: Thatís right, thatís my style.
Sasha Roiz: Yes, no, but it was intense. I mean I think it was definitely a shocker for us when we read it because we really didnít believe it when we read it. We thought it was a bit of a joke. But they went there.
Bitsie Tulloch: It was so intense that we both - we thought it was a joke; we literally thought it was a joke that when we read the script. We were like, ha-ha, whereís our real script.
Sasha Roiz: But it was - I think it came out well. I havenít seen it but I presume it came out well.
On the impact that it has on the three characters going forward?
Sasha Roiz: Well, itís going to be very delectate moving ahead and I donít want to say too much because weíll see what happens because itís really Nickís choice at this point whether he wants to move ahead, whether he wants to stay Portland, or whether he wants to deal with me with her.
So thereís going to be a lot of fall out and thatís going to occupy I think the remainder of this season to see what will transpire and how pieces will fall and - where they fall I should say. So thatís really going to be a very delicate balance I think moving on.
