A celebrated, Emmy-nominated actress, Ms. Downey is best known for her decade of work as the tender-hearted angel on the hit CBS show “Touched by an Angel.”
Ms. Downey not only starred in, but executive produced seven television movies for The CBS network, among them "Borrowed Hearts" with Eric McCormack and "Second Honeymoon" with Tim Matheson. She is the executive producer of the children's DVD and book series "Little Angels" and its companion "Little Angels Storybook Bible".
Mark Burnett's series have been nominated for 67 Emmy Awards and he has personally won four, along with four People's Choice Awards. In 2007, Burnett was elected into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame. In 2009, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 2010 Burnett received the Norman Lear Achievement in Television Award from the Producers Guild of America.
In addition, Burnett has been named one of Time magazine’s World’s Most Influential People, has received BRANDWEEK’s “Marketer of the Year” award, and has been named a TV Guide's Most Valuable Player. Last year, Hearst and Burnett formed One Three Media, a long-term media, production and events-based joint venture, with Hearst acquiring a substantial interest in Burnett’s existing production business.
Together this powerhouse couple brings The Bible App by YouVersion, the official companion app of "The Bible" series from Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, premiering 3-3-13 on HISTORY.
From the release:
The widely popular app, which is completely free, has been downloaded onto over 80 million smartphones and tablets, making it easier than ever to plug into chapter and verse anytime and anywhere.
“Our prayer has always been that the dramatization of these stories will drive viewers to go to the Bible itself and drink in the actual text, because it is a book that changes lives,” said Downey, who co-executive produced the series with her husband and also plays the role of Jesus’ mother, Mary. “We are thrilled to provide millions of people with an easy way to do so with YouVersion.”
“We're honored to be working with Roma and Mark in drawing attention to this brilliant and engaging series. It’s the greatest visualization of the Bible we’ve ever seen, and I believe it will help millions of people engage with the Bible,” said Pastor Bobby Gruenewald, the app’s creator, at LifeChurch.tv in Edmond, Oklahoma. Soon, the YouVersion community will have the opportunity to access video content from the series directly in the app.
The Bible App offers over 400 versions of the Bible in over 200 languages. Users can access tools like bookmarks, notes, highlights, hundreds of reading plans, and more. Everything you add is automatically synced across any device you use. Content can also be accessed via computer at bible.com.
THE BIBLE is an epic 10-hour/five-part docudrama. The series promises to be a landmark television event, combining one of the greatest collections of stories ever assembled with live action and state-of-the-art CGI.
“We have many series currently on TV, but this is the most important,” said Burnett, one the most successful producers in television history, whose current shows include “Survivor,” “The Voice,” “The Celebrity Apprentice” and “Shark Tank.” "Over the next decade, more people will view our Bible series than all of our other TV series combined."
YouVersion is a ministry of LifeChurch.tv, a multi-site church based in Oklahoma. Meeting in 15 different physical locations and globally online, the church is devoted to helping people around the world become fully devoted followers of Christ..
