Fans of big juicy tales like "Game of Thrones" and "The Tudors" have a massive treat in store with History's excellent new series "Vikings," coming this March.
The series features a cast of characters as addictive as "Sons of Anarchy" and "Spartacus", full of familial drama underscored by the actions of lead character Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) whose piercing blue eyes and badass modified braided and twisted up Mohawk ponytail may just start a fashion trend for men.

Great news for fans of "The Tudors" as Executive Producer Michael Hirst has enlisted most of the same crew, including award winning costume designer Joan Bergin, to outfit this sumptuous and gorgeously shot series that will make you want to book a cruise up the fjords in the spring.
"Vikings" will air on Sunday, March 3 at 10 p.m.
The first clip below will bring you to the edge of your seat, giving you a taste of the intense drama that begins on March 3rd. In the next two clips, we’re introduced to two enthralling characters – the warrior shield maiden, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and the ruler, Earl (Gabriel Byrne).

This is a swashbuckling Scandinavian sexy visceral series as our man Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) schools his of-age son Bjorn on the ways of Norse manhood. We meet Ragnar's spirited wife, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) who shows us how these Norwegian women handle life's little situations, like marauding village scumbags who break into her home while her husband is off pillaging (hint: they don't do so well).

This series is based upon the real-life Viking leader who exploded out of Scandinavia and onto the world stage in the 8th Century.

Gabriel Byrne plays a corrupt chieftain and is never better, as we feel for the horrific loss of his two sons, but hate how he tries to rein in Ragnar by trying to divide him from his own brother.

Watch for breakout star Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard), Ragnar's Norse warrior crazy friend whose energy and tenacity make their scenes great fun. Together they build a new generation of boats--faster, sleeker and more beautifully crafted than anything else on the sea, enabling them to sail down to England. Ragnar encounters Christianity and Catholic monks - one of whom becomes his slave - yet slowly he changes Ragnar's spiritual worldview.

The extraordinary tales of the lives and epic adventures of these warriors are told in VIKINGS, a new nine-part scripted series premiering Sunday, March 3 at 10 p.m. (ET) on HISTORY®. The drama portrays the world of these Dark Age raiders, traders, explorers – not from an outsider’s view, but, through the eyes of Viking society.

While VIKINGS is filled with conflict, warfare and bloodshed – for these were extreme times – it is a family saga at heart. It follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a curious, compelling man who is always looking to break through barriers and discover new worlds to conquer.
A young farmer and family man, Ragnar is deeply frustrated by the unadventurous policies of his local chieftain, Earl Haraldson (Gabriel Byrne), who continues to send his Vikings raiders east every summer, to the Baltic states and Russia, whose populations are as materially poor as themselves.

VIKINGS will chart Ragnar’s ambitions to discover civilizations across the great ocean to the west as well as his inevitable conflicts along the way. With the help of his jester friend Floki, (Gustaf Skarsgard, The Way Back), they build a new generation of boats – faster, sleeker and more beautifully crafted than anything else on the sea.
