Comedy Central’s Emmy Award-winning host, Stephen Colbert, helped unveil his wax likeness in the attraction’s Media Room, which was renovated to include a replica set of The Colbert Report.

From the release:

Among a throng of anticipating media, today at Madame Tussauds Washington D.C.—home of the Presidents Gallery—the venerable host of Comedy Central’s Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning series “The Colbert Report,” Stephen Colbert, was immortalized in wax.  The political satirist helped unveil his wax figure this morning at the attraction and stood amazed after the curtains dropped to reveal his lifelike wax double.

For the new figure, Madame Tussauds D.C. renovated its Media Room and created a replica set of The Colbert Report, where guests will be able to interact and take photos behind the desk, seated next to the figure.

“Stephen Colbert’s reaction to seeing his wax figure for the first time was priceless and proof positive that our talented artists have once again successfully captured not only the subject’s physical appearance, but his spirit and character as well.  We are delighted that Mr. Colbert loves his figure,” said Dan Rogoski, General Manager for Madame Tussauds D.C.

Colbert was an active participant in the creation of his wax figure, spending time with a team of Madame Tussauds studio artists, who joined him at his show’s New York City studio in June of this year to take more than 250 precise measurements and photographs — capturing him from every angle.  Since then, the team of artists have been working diligently to ensure the figure fully captures his unique style, exact eye color, build and overall allure, including his signature “thumbs up” gesture and raised eyebrow.

Additionally, Colbert donated his own clothes to outfit the figure, including a suit, tie, shirt, cuff links, socks, shoes and lapel pin.  He also provided information for his eye glasses to Madame Tussauds, which had them recreated to exact specification and magnification.

Stephen Colbert is a best-selling author, political satirist, writer, comedian, and television host of Comedy Central’s acclaimed series, The Colbert Report.  For seven years, The Colbert Report has garnered ratings and critical success as one of the top shows on television.  The series has received two prestigious Peabody® Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting and 25 Primetime Emmy® nominations.  In 2010, Colbert and his writing team were honored with a second Emmy® for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program.  Colbert first gained TV notoriety in 1997 when he joined the late-night satirical news program, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
