The king of faux news, Jon Stewart and FOX pundit Bill O’Reilly entertained fans in their “Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium” at the George Washington University campus on Saturday.
Conservative O’Reilly hammered the fact that “Bush is Gone” using flash cards: “It may have been Bush’s fault for the first year, maybe two — but not three and a half.”
Stewart countered with the idea Bush created was a society of entitlement that we could have two wars that cost $800 billion and cut taxes at the same time.
Jon added that “a good portion of this country” is living in an “alternate universe” called “Bulls**t Mountain” where “problems are amplified and solutions simplified.”
The core argument between the two was over "entitlement," from welfare on a personal level to corporate. Stewart said, “Obama hasn’t increased and expanded your ability to get welfare and food stamps by broadening the pool. More people have fallen into the social safety net that exists there, because, as we talked about, $2.5 trillion of money went out of our economy in the bank crisis in two weeks.”
O’Reilly says, “Nobody begrudges people who need a safety net, but right now, we have this mindset that, ‘You know what, times are tough, I am going to take what I can take.’” Stewart counters with "Why is it that if you take advantage of a corporate tax break you're a smart businessman, but if you take advantage of something so you don't go hungry, you're a moocher?".
