During her first week home from the London Games, NBC correspondent and newsman Lester Holt spends time with Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas for a candid interview.

From NBC

Still newly embracing the media frenzy of returning back to the States, the 16-year-old talks about what changed the minute she won the gold, what’s been the best part of it all, and those multi-million dollar endorsement deals. Plus, “Dateline” will air exclusive home video of Gabby’s whirlwind since returning home.

Excerpts from the interview follow...

LESTER HOLT:

The minute that you won the gold, tell me what happened.

GABBY DOUGLAS:

Things changed instantly. I remember just, like Twitter and I had gained, like, so many followers. And I was just so happy. Me and my mom went shopping and everyone was just, like, "Oh, hey, that's Gabby. That's Gabby." So I'm just gonna enjoy it and soak it in.

LESTER HOLT:

But is it, is it almost assault on the senses? Has it been too much yet?

GABBY DOUGLAS:

It's been fun. I had to learn how to enjoy it and soak it in because it's all gonna go by very fast and I'm just gonna take it day by day.

LESTER HOLT:

What's been the best part?

GABBY DOUGLAS:

Let's see. We met Nicki Minaj and Jordin Sparks and I …

LESTER HOLT:

Not only did you meet them. They knew who you were. You were a celebrity to them.

GABBY DOUGLAS:

Yeah.

*****

LESTER HOLT:

Have you wrapped your head around those kind of dollar figures yet?

GABBY DOUGLAS:

Well, I don't really look at the money because, all – you know – my agent handles that and my mom, so they deal with that.

LESTER HOLT:

I know, I know. But, still, it's a lot of money. You've heard those dollar – I know they'll do the paperwork, but that's a lot of money.

GABBY DOUGLAS:

I know. But it's really not about the money, though.

GABBY DOUGLAS:

I just like to see it as having fun. I mean photo shoots are really fun.
