NBC has announced former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will co-host on the “Today” show Tuesday.

Palin at one time was a sports anchor in Alaska, and is now a paid political analyst for Fox News Channel. Fox reportedly gave her clearance for the network appearance.

The booking is a direct slap and ratings grab against Palin nemesis and "Today" alumna Katie Couric, who returns to morning TV as a guest host on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Couric joined ABC last year and was co-host of longtime ratings leader "Today" for 15 years before leaving for CBS in 2006.

Tuesday's edition is to include "a big NBC announcement" by Ryan Seacrest according to NBC's official Twitter feed.
