The Time Lord and his current companions
Steven Moffat has teased that the Time Lord's new companion in 'Doctor Who' will be someone 'very different'.
The writer of the BBC One sci-fi show explained with Karen Gillan - who plays the Doctor's current companion Amy Pond - set to depart the series, the titular character will be set to meet his future assistant in 'the very last place he could ever have expected'.
Writing in the programme for the 'Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular' held in Melbourne, Australia, last week, Steven said: 'The Doctor will be saying hello to someone very different. He is going to meet someone in the very last place he could ever have expected.'
Show star Matt Smith - who portrays the Time Lord - has previously admitted he is keen for his time-travelling alter-ego to have a male companion when Karen departs the series.
He recently told BANG Showbiz: 'I'm really pleased with the award. We always try to do the best every day and try to improve the show as best we can.
'I wouldn't mind a male companion now that Karen has left. I've always believe me and Karen would have different journeys in 'Doctor Who'.
'I'm sad she's left, but the show is bigger than all the actors who have been in it. I have no plans to leave, though. I've definitely got a year left in the show and I'll take it from there.'
