Steven Moffat is penning a 'heartbreaking' 'Doctor Who' exit for Amy Pond.
The writer of the BBC One sci-fi show revealed there will be a tear-jerking storyline involving Amy - who is played by Karen Gillan - and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) that will result in the Time Lord's companion leaving the programme.
He said: 'I'm writing that right now, the big Rory and Amy heartbreaking finale. It will be quite heartbreaking. I think you'll be in trouble watching it.'
Steven also confirmed pre-production has started on the new series - which is set to include episodes penned by Toby Whithouse and Chris Chibnall - and he is expecting the first episode to hit TV screens in the autumn.
He explained: 'We just had our official day commencing pre-production on 'Doctor Who'.
'Knowing when it's actually going to be shown is a little bit optimistic, but... I'm pretty sure it will be the autumn.'
Steven insists he still gets 'very excited' about penning episodes of the sci-fi series - which sees Matt Smith portray the Time Lord - but he admits it is 'harder' to re-create the feeling of it being a novelty.
He added to Dublin University's Observer newspaper: 'I remember sitting down for the first time and thinking 'Bloody hell, I'm actually writing 'Doctor Who'' [and] that never completely wears off.
'I'm always very excited about writing 'Doctor Who', but it's now harder for me to recapture the feeling of it being entirely a novelty.'
