Singer Lana Del Rey's American debut on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" was a mixed bag of reactions.
One of her biggest critics was fellow musician and Hollywood actress Juliette Lewis.
After watching the show she tweeted: "Wow watching this 'singer' on SNL is like watching a 12 year old in their bedroom when they're pretending to sing and perform #signofourtimes.''
Lewis deleted this tweet and has since procliamed that ethereal Lana Del Rey has "great haunting melodies" and that she's a "fresh and yummy songwriter".
Del Rey was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live (Jan. 14), even though her album is due Jan. 31 on Interscope.
Following the performance of “Video Games,” the remarks on Twitter were fast and furious.
The Holywood Reporter gathered up a sampling of tweets, including “I expected to be blown away by Lana Del Rey due to the hype. It's time for SNL to get a real band on,” offered @NeonBMC.
Del Rey joins a list of singers like Irish singer Kate Bush who have ardent fans, with a unique style of vocalization that does not come off slickly produced and enhanced.
