We hopefully will find out as AMC announced from the Television Critics Association (TCA) Press Tour in Pasadena, CA that the third season of “The Walking Dead” will consist of 16 episodes.
Previous season orders were for 13 episodes.
At yesterdays Television Critics' Association panel, we discover that the character Carol will regroup upon her daughter's demise.
“I think she’s going to be in a little bit of a limbo,” said actress Melissa McBride. “She might find some strength in herself.”
So far the premiere date for Season 3 is under wraps, but AMC will split the show into two halves again with a possible late fall return.
The theme of the series moving forward is the percolating tension between two dominant males, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Shane (Jon Bernthal) who will be at “the heart of the show” moving forward, showrunner Glen Mazzara said.
“Rick proved himself to be a leader … he put down Sophia,” he said. “You have these two Alpha Males sparring for position and we get a lot of great story out of that. And it puts everybody else in a difficult position on that farm.”
Season two of the critically acclaimed global hit series continues to deliver the strongest telecasts for any drama in basic cable history against Adults 18-49, as well as, top international pay-TV ratings on Fox International Channels’ (FIC) major markets.
One reporter asked Mazzara about his Twitter feed, and if 'Sons of Anarchy' showrunner and "pal Kurt Sutter" gave him tips on what to tweet.
"No, he hasn’t given me any tips...Shawn Ryan (Terriers, The Shield) convinced me to join Twitter. He said that it would be great for the to connect with the fans, and so I’m excited about doing that. Kurt did tweet that people should follow me, and then he tweeted me, “I doubled your followers, bitch.”
The series is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics.
Initially Frank Darabont served as showrunner with Glen Mazzara stepping in and taking his place as showrunner and executive producer. Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Darabont are executive producers with KNB Effects' award winning makeup artist/designer Greg Nicotero as co-executive producer.
“The Walking Dead” secured a 2010 Golden Globe® nomination for Best Television Series - Drama and won the 2011 Emmy® Award for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup.
Premise
