National Geographic Channel (NGC) Executive Vice President of Programming Michael Cascio today announced the greenlight of the new series Are You Tougher than a Boy Scout? (WT) from Thom Beers’ Original Productions.
Boy Scouting fosters a sense of good citizenship, fitness and personal achievement by developing new interests and skills. The self-confidence and sense of accomplishment boys get from fun skill-building activities are life skills they will take with them into adulthood.

Emmy-award winning producers of 'Deadliest Catch' comes a new hero: the American Boy Scout.
In this NGC series, adults from all walks of life will compete with the country’s top Boy Scouts for merit badges in challenges based on the Scouts’ 100-year-old handbook. The adult “civilians” will go head to head with scrappy Scouts in challenges like setting up a campsite, starting a fire and cooking dinner as fast as possible.
“I was three badges short of my Eagle Scout badge, and I know I am not alone,” said Beers. “This series is going to allow people like me one more chance to achieve such an incredible milestone. Plus, it’s authentic, has a fun and interesting set of circumstances and underdog characters with a story to tell. And frankly, who doesn’t love the Boy Scouts?”
In the series, adults will try to prove they can keep up with the Scouts who have been selected from the top guides from across the country — ranging from Webelos (age 10) to Eagles (age 17–18).
“Partnering not only with Thom Beers, but also with an organization as renowned as the Boy Scouts of America is an incredible opportunity for us to try something different,” added Cascio. “This series will showcase our passion for adventure and exploration in a whole new way.”
Production of the six-episode series is set to begin this spring, with the series premiering later this year on the National Geographic Channel.
