If you're a fan of transforming lions and great 80's cartoons, THQ has your number.

Voltron, the defender of our universe and beloved 1980s cartoon star, stars in a new video game from THQ based on the classic Voltron: Defenders of the Universe show.

Monsters and Critics was invited to a special Voltron launch party in honor of THQ's new Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 game called 'Voltron: Defender of the Universe.'

They held the party at the Agoura, CA. THQ headquarters as the retro Voltron game played on many screens. Shepharding the event was a kickass group of lovelies named Team Unicorn, headed by host of the event Clare Grant (Seth Green's wife).

THQ put out a spread of delicious gamer approved snackies and a giant Voltron (Voltron Force was in the house!) PLUS the original voice talent Michael Bell (Lance, Sven), Neil Ross (Commander Keith, Pidge) and BJ Ward (Princess Allura, Haggar) were gathered amongst us mere mortals as they were interviewed for the live event for fans online by host Clare Grant of Team Unicorn and “Voltron Force” producer Jeremy Corray.

In attendance were Voltron fans Seth Green (Robot Chicken), Alex Albrecht (Diggnation) and Team Unicorn members Michele Boyd, Rileah Vanderbilt and Milynn Sarley during a special Live Stream event.

From THQ

In this brand-new take on the original Voltron animated adventure, players will find themselves teaming up to battle the evil forces of King Zarkon across the varied landscapes of the Far Universe, including Planets Arus and Doom. Interwoven with clips and a re-mastered score from the original animated television series, the new game from THQ promises an epic adventure in stunning high-definition.

Space Explorers will take advantage of each Lion’s unique weaponry and strengths as they join forces both online in seamless 1-5 player co-op modes, and offline with 1-2 players to battle fierce Robeasts and a number of other familiar adversaries.

Also available today on Xbox LIVE Arcade is Voltron gear for players’ avatars, including a free Voltron t-shirt, Voltron wings, and five Lion pets – each with different animations. Watch out! The Black Lion’s got an electrifying bite and the red one has been known to cough up fireballs.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe is available today on Xbox LIVE Arcade (800 Microsoft Points) and PlayStation Network ($9.99), rated E10+ for Everyone Ages 10 and Up.
