"Real Time with Bill Maher" will feature Beau Biden, David Paterson, Darrell Issa, Alex Wagner and Bill Engvall this Friday night.
Guest Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden sued a private national mortgage registry last Thursday, citing a slew of deceptive trade practices that prevent homeowners from effectively fighting off foreclosure.
The lawsuit alleges that Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems Inc. deceived borrowers by knowingly obscuring important information, acting as an agent of the true owners of mortgage loans without authority, and failing to properly oversee the registry or enforce its own rules for foreclosure proceedings.
David A. Paterson, 55th governor of the state of New York and a member of and consultant to the National Federation of the Blind, on October 11, urged immediate passage of the Fair Wages for Workers with Disabilities Act (H.R. 3086), which was introduced in the United States House of Representatives last week.
Governor Paterson said: “It is long past time for the anachronistic provision of the Fair Labor Standards Act that allows workers with disabilities to be paid less than the federal minimum wage to be phased out. As Samuel R. Bagenstos, former principal deputy assistant attorney general for civil rights, has reported, Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act does not encourage mainstream employers to hire disabled workers; does not result in the training of workers with disabilities to participate in competitive employment; and does not even produce wages tied to the alleged lower productivity of disabled workers, which is a myth in any event. This anachronism must be stricken from America’s statute books, and workers with disabilities must receive equal pay for equal work and an equal opportunity to succeed.”
In a memo just released from the office of U.S. Representative Darrell Issa, R-California, the Congressman announces that he will introduce a new whistleblower protection law aimed at preventing the abuse of those who report wrongdoing in government, such as the conscientious ATF agents who blew the whistle on the Gunwalker scandal.
It was widely alleged by the agents that they have suffered abuse, threats, and attempts at being framed for crimes they did not commit by ATF management in retaliation for their going public with the Fast and Furious story.
The series continues its ninth season Friday, Nov. 4 (10:00-11:00 p.m. live ET/tape-delayed PT), exclusively on HBO, with an instant replay at 11:00 p.m. following the live presentation.
Allowing Maher to offer his unique perspective on contemporary issues, the show includes an opening monologue, roundtable discussions with panelists, and interviews with in-studio and satellite guests.
The roundtable guests this week are Cal. Rep. Darrell Issa, former NY Gov. David Paterson and news analyst Alex Wagner; Del. Atty. Gen. Beau Biden and comedian Bill Engvall are interview guests.
A favorite of subscribers since his first special on the network in 1989, Maher has starred in nine solo specials on HBO, including the hour-long presentations “Bill Maher…But I’m Not Wrong,” “The Decider” and “I’m Swiss” (both nominated for an Emmy® in the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special category), “Victory Begins at Home,” “Be More Cynical,” “The Golden Goose Special” and “Stuff That Struck Me Funny,” and two half-hour stand-up specials, plus the HBO specials “30 Seconds Over Washington” and “Comic Relief VI™.”
Maher was the creator and host of “Politically Incorrect,” which was produced by HBO Downtown Productions and debuted on Comedy Central in 1993. The series moved to ABC in 1997 and ran through 2002.
