'Wilfred' shines with Mary Steenburgen, Rhea Perlman in Compassion

FX comedy "Wilfred" featured guest star Mary Steenburgen and secret guest star Rhea Perlman - who played “Mittens,” the feline companion of Ryan’s (Elijah Wood) mother Catherine (Mary Steenburgen) in episode nine (“Compassion”) on Thursday night.
Wilfred, starring Elijah Wood and Jason Gann, airs Thursday nights at 10:00 PM ET/PT only on FX. The season one finale airs Thursday, September 8, 2011.

In FX's Wilfred "Compassion," Ryan (Elijah Wood) picks up his mother (Mary Steenburgen) from the mental institution where she has been living these past twenty years.

Ryan struggles with her eccentricities. However Wilfred (Jason Gann) has grown fond of Ryan's mum, and manages to get her to discover Ryan's suicide letter. Ryan ends up being treated by his mother's doctor (John Michael Higgins), though in the end, they come home togehter.
This episode reveals that Ryan is very much like his mother, and has similar personality and mental issues.

In the final scenes, Ryan's mother is shown speaking with her cat (Rhea Perlman), whom she sees as a human in a cat costume, as Ryan sees Wilfred.
