The Today show featured a fascinating segment that revealed the identity of that lucky woman who was tongue-kissed by Elvis Presley, caught in an iconic photo by Alfred Wetheimer.
On Monday morning, Barbara Gray, 75, and photographer Alfred Wertheimer were the interview for Matt Lauer.
Ms. Gray was caught in a special once in a lifetime moment with Presley. The photo was taken in June 1956 before Elvis took the stage at the Mosque Theatre in Richmond, Virginia.
Ms. Gray told Lauer: "Maybe he had sparks, but I didn't even know who he was," Gray said. "He's a very funny kid, he was very silly and we were running around chasing each other, just being young. He narrowed me down in the hallway there to ask me if I wanted to go to (popular variety show) 'The Steve Allen Show' with him. And I said, 'No, I'm on my way to Philadelphia to see my boyfriend.' And that's when the challenge began for him."
Wertheimer said of the photo he took: "I never realized that these [photos] would become iconic," Wertheimer said. "The day he died, Time magazine called me up and said 'Bring your pictures over immediately.'"
