Look Who’s Talking On CBS Daytime’s “THE TALK”…the man in the doghouse, rock's tongue-meister extraordinaire Gene Simmons.
Sharon Osbourne confronts KISS frontman Gene Simmons about controversial statements he made about The Osbournes
Gene talks candidly about where his strained relationship stands with longtime partner Shannon Tweed: “I want to work this out…I will do anything I can to make sure that I finally grow up and be a man.
Partial Transcript:
Holly Robinson Peete: “I’m sensing a little tension at the table.
Leah Remini: “Let’s talk about it. Let’s just talk about it. We’re at the table. It’s always the right time to have the Talk.”
Sharon Osbourne: “It was just printed in the press many years ago -- many many years ago when you first started Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels, it was reported that somebody said, ‘Isn’t it like The Osbournes?’ And you said, ‘No, because my kids aren’t on drugs.’”
Remini: “Give me a ruler.”
Remini hits Simmons’ arm with a ruler.
Osbourne: “So I came back without rebuttal, and then there was something printed in the Kiss magazine about, ‘There should have been a disclaimer at the beginning of ‘The Osbournes’ (TV Show) that people shouldn’t drink, otherwise you’ll end up like Ozzy Osbourne,’ and you said he was sad. And I don’t think my husband is sad. He knew what he was doing, it was his choice, and he’s not sad. So there we go.”
Remini: “Gene, how do you feel, Gene?”
Simmons: “Well, I think, rightfully so. Any mother would defend her family, as well you should. And I honestly -- as I look at you right in your faces -- tell you the God’s honest truth, I don’t remember saying those things. If I did, I was way out of line. Your family is your business and nobody has a right to say anything about them.”
Audience applauds.
Osbourne (nodding): “Thank you. Point taken.”
Audience cheers.
Simmons: “And I honestly don’t remember saying those things, but if I did, I would profoundly apologize to any woman out there who had kids and a family. This is your life, your domain, and nobody, not even Gene Simmons, has a right to say squat about it.”
Robinson: “Hey, Gene, changing the subject, on your show last week your girlfriend of 28 years – the gorgeous Shannon Tweed – I’d heard she’d moved out of the house.”
Simmons: “I’m gonna get killed.”
Robinson: “Now what exactly led to that?”
Remini: “What did you do?”
Audience laughs.
Remini: “What did you do?”
Simmons: “Wasn’t it a nice day today? … Well, you know, I’m not a plumber or dentist. I’m surrounded by the lifestyle. I stick out my tongue, do a lot of stuff, hump my guitar, and all that kind of stuff. And the problem is that you’re surrounded by beautiful women and it’s been 28 years, and this – well, for the record, I love Shannon Tweed. I want to work this out. There’s no chance of me ever running out on my kids or Shannon. I will do anything I can to make sure that I finally grow up and be a man.”
Audience applauds.
Robinson: “However long that takes.”
Osbourne: “It’s never too late!”
Remini: “It’s never too late, you’re right, you’re right.”
Wayne Brady: “And just for folks to know, just as another man to look at you and hear you say that, for you to say that publically, that is a huge thing because you could be on some ego nonsense and go, “Ahhh, well, I’ve been with da-da-da …” No. So I applaud you.”
Audience applauds.
Simmons: “You know that this is a different kind of a lifestyle. You’re up on stage, everybody around you is telling you you’re the god that walks the face of the earth. They call me the god of thunder and other superlatives. You’re surrounded by –“
Osbourne: “Do you fart?”
Simmons: “I beg your pardon?”
Brady: “That’s the thunder.”
Osbourne: “That’s the thunder. That’s what I’m saying.”
Simmons: “That’s the thunder. And so you’re surrounded by yes people and all this kind of stuff, and you can be an ugly S.O.B. like me and women will still throw themselves at you. The bottom line is, if you love somebody you have to draw the line in the sand. I can’t cross this line. I’m 62 now. It’s probably time to grow up.”
