ABC is finalizing a deal with Katie Couric for a syndicated talk show that will resemble what Oprah Winfrey created.
Couric's entry to the daytime chat lineup is on the heels of Winfrey's exit, and follows her five-year anchor position on the "CBS Evening News."
The Wall Street Journal reports that ABC "will distribute Couric's talk show to local TV stations, with an intended premiere in the fall of 2012."
The format is rumored to be a blend of Winfrey's show and the "Today" show where Couric was a co-anchor for 15 years.
Couric, 54, struggled with ratings as an anchor on the "CBS Evening News," in third-place among network evening newscasts.
The WSJ reports that ABC "remains committed to 'General Hospital,' but could move its time slot, potentially replacing one of the new shows it has ordered to replace the other soaps."
