Real Time with Bill Maher continues its ninth season Friday, June 3 (10:00-11:00 p.m. live ET/tape-delayed PT), exclusively on HBO, with an instant replay at 11:00 p.m. following the live presentation.
Allowing Maher to offer his unique perspective on contemporary issues, the show includes an opening monologue, roundtable discussions with panelists, and interviews with in-studio and satellite guests.
The roundtable guests this week are educator Melissa Harris-Perry, who in an interview interview with Peter Montgomery of ReligionDispatches.com says, "“I believe that the struggle for equal human and civil rights for lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, same-sex-loving, gender-nonconforming and queer persons is the civil rights agenda of our time.” And, she said, “faith must be part of the work we’re doing.”
Maher also has talk-show host Larry King and former NY Rep. Rick Lazio, a former United States representative from Long Island, was a candidate for the Republican nomination for governor of New York. In the primary on Sept. 14, 2010, he lost to Carl P. Paladino, a Buffalo multimillionaire popular among Tea Party advocates.
Shaun Donovan, secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and American screenwriter, director, comedian, and actor Adam Mckay, Will Ferrell's Funny or Die partner, are interview guests.
Maher was the creator and host of “Politically Incorrect,” which was produced by HBO Downtown Productions and debuted on Comedy Central in 1993. The series moved to ABC in 1997 and ran through 2002.
His 2005 book, “New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer,” made the New York Times best seller list, as well as best seller lists across the country. He is also author of the books “When You Ride Alone You Ride with Bin Laden: What the Government Should Be Telling Us to Help Fight the War on Terrorism,” “Does Anybody Have a Problem with That? The Best of Politically Incorrect” and the novel “True Story.” Maher also starred in the 2008 feature film “Religulous,” the seventh most successful documentary of all time.
