Bones recap - The Change in the Game

The last two sentences said in this episode answered a lot of questions, and set up a lot for next season.
The last two sentences said in this episode answered a lot of questions, and set up a lot for next season.
Here’s this episode’s summary from tv.com: “In the sixth season finale, the team investigates the disturbing, unidentifiable remains of a bowler that were found jammed in one of the bowling alley's automatic pinsetters. After hitting a dead end in the case, Booth and Brennan decide to go undercover and join a competitive bowling team in search of answers.”
“I’m pregnant. You’re the father.”
Turns out that Angela’s pregnancy was just the warm-up. Next year will be the main event.
Before we get to that, this week’s murder was somewhat gruesome and funny at the same time. A bowler is ground up in the pinsetters so that they spew meat at the beginning of the show. Gross ... but also kind of humorous.
Of course, we have to find out about the victim and his teammates. Turns out one of the people on his bowling team is Brennan’s father, again played by Ryan O’Neal. Once he’s eliminated from the investigation, Bones and Booth have to play dress-up and act as a couple to join the team and find out who killed the Closer ... or as others called him, “The Gloater.”
There are a lot of strange suspects and, as usual, it’s someone that isn’t the most obvious in the room. But that’s what makes ‘Bones’ fun to watch. And we again see the working together of those in the field and those in the Jeffersonian to figure out just who did what to whom with what.
The other game-changer is Angela’s giving birth. It’s a painful process (what delivery isn’t?), and it has some funny moments to it, like Angela’s back-and-forth about Hodgins’ voice as well as her doctor’s character.
When their son is born, they get good news ... that he isn’t blind and is, in fact, perfectly normal.
If this were a real-life couple, I’d be happy. But on TV, regular is boring. I would have preferred something interesting, but this is a nice outcome, if somewhat dull.
The child’s birth was an interesting counterpoint to last week’s loss of life, so that made it a good development.
Then we get to the final moments of the hour, when Brennan is talking with Booth about the new addition to the family. She looks rather baffled, causing Booth to ask her what’s wrong. She replies with the two sentences I listed at the beginning of this recap, answering a lot of questions about whether they “did it” in previous weeks and just what’s going on with them. I expect we’ll see the pair grow closer in the fall when a new season begins ... but in that ‘Bones’ quirky kind of way.
All in all, a good conclusion to an interesting year.
And that’s a wrap for the sixth season of ‘Bones.’ See everyone in the fall when Season 7 hits the digital airwaves!
