Torpedo Tastic Premieres May 4 at 9PM ET/PT
In this episode, MythBusters has the opportunity to tackle two of their favorite things: explosives and wine.
First, Adam and Jamie attempt to clarify whether or not the world’s supposed first torpedo, built in the 1320s in Syria, could really have obtained success after traveling 800 feet along the water’s surface. The pair heads to a lake to test this significant historical event using their own torpedoes, which have been fashioned with the same dimensions and designs as the very first torpedo.
Tory, Kari and Grant set out to solve a recent tragedy which involved the explosion of a semi-truck filled with wine. Although the occurrence of this accident is no myth, the trio investigates what could have caused the corks of the wine bottles to pop off like machine guns.
Wine Not?: Could an on-fire wine truck start shooting out corks? Domaine Carneros Winery's Eileen Crane gives Kari Byron her expert opinion.
Wine fans are advised to look away!
Hull to Hull: Which hull shape makes for a better torpedo? A deep V? Or a flat bottom? After weighing the pros and cons, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman choose their ... bottoms.
Blow Your Own Sail Premieres May 11 at 9PM ET/PT
In this episode, Jamie and Adam travel to Los Angeles to examine some of Hollywood’s acoustic secrets.
The guys attempt to compare sounds fabricated for the silver screen with actual sounds that occur outside the production studios. In true MythBusters fashion, the pair seizes the opportunity to extract sounds from rattlesnakes, punches, silencers and, of course, explosions.
Back in Northern California, Kari, Tory and Grant take on both Newton’s Law of Motion and cartoons that depict characters being propelled forward by electric fans. The crew fully puts this myth to the test by attempting to use fans to power small- and large- scale vessels, as well as jet powered skateboards.
Spy Car 2 Premieres May 18 at 9PM ET/PT
Adam and Jamie get back in the hot seat as they battle more myths involving spy cars. In this episode, they focus on elaborate dashboards containing different buttons for specific weapons, often seen in movies.
These intricate devices seem to always function without fail, but how do they hold up in real life? The curious duo create their own spy car, fully equipped with tire slashes and mounted guns, to find out.
While they hit the streets, Kari, Tory and Grant battle cold mountain weather to test the veracity of an icy viral video. In this YouTube sensation, a shooter takes a shot at the surface of a frozen lake. Instead of penetrating the ice or ricocheting, the bullet spins like a spinning top. The group heads to a frozen lake in the mountains to take some shots of their own.
[Programming note: MythBusters will not feature a premiere on May 25. Premieres resume Wednesdays at 9PM ET/PT on June 1]
