On Saturday I locked myself away in my home and watched ALL SIX sent episodes from HBO of "Game of Thrones."
"Thrones" is based on the same named body of literary work which I knew nothing of. Full disclosure: High Fantasy is not my cuppa. Loved "Lord of the Rings" for one reason only: Viggo Mortensen. I prefer my Lady in the Lake tales told by Monty Python.
Well, as we reported last week, "Top Chef" star, new dad and entrepreneur Tom Colicchio has worked with Game of Thrones branded food trucks and created a menu - transporting fans and foodies into the taste experience of the Seven Kingdoms.
"Thrones" is adult fare, not for kids. It happens in the fictional land of Westeros, where several Houses and clans have fought for generations in different realms, until the dragon masters, the Targaryens invaded and brought the Seven Kingdoms under the rule of the Iron Throne. Of course, there is always a battle for the throne.
Now I know what the Seven Kingdoms are! And I hate the Lannisters like everyone else in Westeros! Creator George R.R. Martin is a bit pervy and loves to pen his characters in the doggy-style position. And Peter Dinklage is the man. He is the only Lannister I actually am fond of because he's deliciously clever and witty in a role that eats up the scenery.
Back to food. This week, the trucks are hitting Los Angeles.
Some details:
• Three hundred servings of free food inspired by the rich depictions of the banquets featured in the new series – such as roasted rabbit, spice roasted duck, and venison – will be dished out each day this week.
• Supplies are very limited (300 per day), so it’s first come, first served.
• The daily menu and Tom Colicchio's personal recipe for the coveted Game of Thrones Lemon Cakes are available on makinggameofthrones.com.
• The truck’s daily serving times and locations can only be found by following Game of Thrones on Twitter at twitter.com/gameofthrones and on Facebook at facebook.com/ gameofthrones
Taste is the last sense to be engaged as part of the TheMaestersPath.com, an interactive journey through the world of Game of Thrones where you can literally smell, hear, see, touch and taste the world that is coming to life on April 17.
