There’s no business like “snow” business for the Jeffersonian staff!
Here’s this episode’s summary from tv.com: “When a blizzard causes a power outage during a critical murder investigation, the team finds they must adapt to their low-tech environment in order to prevent a possible biological catastrophe. Elsewhere, Sweets gets a little too interpersonal when Brennan and Booth find themselves trapped in an elevator, while Angela and Hodgins worry over some test results.”
As someone who lives in the Washington, DC, area, and who experienced last year’s “Snowpocalypse/Snowzilla” blizzards that left many of us without power, it’s not hard to imagine where this episode’s inspiration came from. (I just have to say--Brrrrr!) What’s fun is how the Squints deal with it, using creative ways to generate power to solve the crime.
When a body is found and it contains traces of a contagious disease, the search is on for the killer, who is very likely infected and probably will be showing symptoms. The bad news for Brennan and Booth is that they’re stuck in an elevator with several chairs from Veterans Stadium that Booth wanted to put in his apartment.
Where we’re obviously headed is a re-ignition of the relationship between the two characters. In fact, Sweets, who wasn’t in the elevator when the power went off, wants the pair to return to counseling for a few weeks. Booth of course says no, and not very kindly, either. Meanwhile, Sweets is being dressed by Booth’s elderly neighbor in her dead spouse’s clothes, which was actually a little creepy.
Seems the mention of Heather’s name sets Booth off, and that’s something they’ll have to deal with in the coming episodes.
The other storyline focuses on Hodgins and Angela as they await test results that could tell whether their child will be born blind. I’ve said before that this story hasn’t always been very interesting this season, but the fact that the results came back positive--there’s a 25 percent chance that the child will in fact be born blind--was a twist that television normally won’t make. And that was a very endearing way to go forward, honestly. Angela often has to “mother” Hodgins as he struggles with his own limitations.
Again this week, the usual fun twists and turns keep us wondering just how it will resolve. It’s another interesting mystery puzzle to unravel.
The only thing I wish is that I could buy whatever brand of cellphone batteries they use. My phone never keeps power that long!
“Bones” will be back in three weeks, and will conclude the season with seven episodes in a row, so be back for the home stretch then!
