Eddie Izzard is many things: A stand up, an actor and a spoken word touring phenomenon. Also, in his words, he is "a straight Transvestite."
Izzard, who we adored in the short-lived FX series "The Riches," is cast in the new season of Showtime's multiple personality dramedy, "United States of Tara," created by Diablo Cody.
The series stars Toni Collette as Tara, who has managed to get a grip on all her multiple personalities. Now Tara is returning to school and Eddie Izzard is cast as her psychology professor with his own ideas about Tara's disorder.
The season is back on Monday, March 28 at 10:30 p.m. ET on Showtime.
Izzard spoke to Showtime about his career, this new role and more.
