SAMCRO is going to Vegas!
NAB will see FX's hit series "Sons of Anarchy" roll up to talk to the 90,000+ attendees of the annual Industry event.
Kurt Sutter, creator, writer and executive producer of FX's number one show, "Sons of Anarchy," and members of his production team will participate in the 2011 NAB Show in a session titled "Sons of Anarchy: Grit and Texture in Small Town America."
Sutter, along with the show's director of photography, Paul Maibaum, and production designer, Anthony Medina, will share their creative vision and techniques they use to tell larger-than-life stories through the lens of an outlaw biker's club and the corrupt town they inhabit.
Entertainment Weekly's Lynette Rice will moderate the conversation, which will be held in the NAB Show's Content Theater, located in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, on Tuesday, April 12 at 3:15 PM.
The 2011 NAB Show takes place April 9-14 in Las Vegas.
Starring Charlie Hunnam, Kim Coates, Ryan Hurst, Ron Perlman, William Lucking, Dayton Callie, Theo Rossi, Michael Marisi Ornstein, Winter Ave Zoli, Tommy Flanagan, Mark Boone Junior, Mitch Pileggi, Kurt Sutter (who plays Otto, a member of SAMCRO) and recent Golden Globe Award-winner Katey Sagal, "Sons of Anarchy" is a perfectly cast ensemble machine that is an adrenalized drama underscored with wickedly funny dark humor.
The tale of Charming, California's SAMCRO, an outlaw motorcycle club (MC) is writ large with Shakespearean touches. The series' mythology has revealed ties to the I.R.A. and has featured some of Ireland's finest actors in season three, when Kurt Sutter took the story back to the Emerald Isle to connect the past to the present day action in the dramatic storyline.
The show has grabbed a worldwide audience and has had some of the best stunt casting of any TV series. The show has starred Henry Rollins, Stephen King, Hal Holbrook, Adam Arkin and Paula Malcomson and many more in compelling guest-starring arcs.
The show's stories resonate with authenticity because of great storytelling, crafts and careful attention to detail.
With a seven-day shooting schedule and a lean production budget, Sutter and his team are required to think not only outside the box, but outside the wallet, as well.
Background
Creator, writer and executive producer Kurt Sutter began his career in Hollywood in 2001, when he landed a position on the FX series "The Shield." Starting as a staff writer on the first episode, he stayed on until the final episode, finishing up the last two seasons as the series' executive producer. Sutter continued his relationship with FX, creating the critically acclaimed "Sons of Anarchy," now entering its fourth season on the network. Along with his TV work, Sutter has feature projects in development at DreamWorks Studios, Warner Bros. and Paramount Studios.
Director of photography Paul Maibaum is a graduate of the USC School of Cinema. He has worked on all three seasons of "Sons of Anarchy" including directing "Potlach," the eighth episode of the second season. Maibaum also recently completed shooting the fourth season of the successful TBS series "My Boys."
Anthony Medina spent four seasons as production designer on "The Shield," followed by a season designing "Wildfire." His television art directing credits include hit television shows "Felicity," "Providence," "The Division" and "Mental."
The NAB Show, held annually in Las Vegas, is the world's largest electronic media show covering filmed entertainment and the development, management and delivery of content across all mediums.
