Bill Maher's chat salon is fired up for Friday, as HBO hosts "Real Time with Bill Maher" and has a great panel lined up for the night.
The series continues its ninth season Friday, March 4 (10:00-11:00 p.m. live ET/tape-delayed PT), on HBO, with an instant replay at 11:00 p.m. following the live presentation.
This format allows Maher to offer his unique perspective on contemporary issues, the show includes an opening monologue, roundtable discussions with panelists, and interviews with in-studio and satellite guests.
The guests this week are Washington Post columnist Ezra Klein, Cal. Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and political activist Gloria Steinem. Author T.C. Boyle is an interview guest.
Klein cover politics and recently penned his thoughts on state pensions.
California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom recently asked (via Twitter) for people to stop using the "r-word" ("retard," "retarded") in conversation and written text. You can visit here for more information.
Steinem is a historic figure in women's rights and was recently at Oberlin College. The Plain Dealer reports the 77 year old activist visited the liberal arts college, which was the first in the nation to admit black and female students, starting in 1837. Steinem stressed that racism and sexism fed off each other and that one would never be broken without dismantling the other.
A favorite of subscribers since his first special on the network in 1989, Maher has starred in nine solo specials on HBO, including the hour-long presentations “Bill Maher…But I’m Not Wrong,” “The Decider” and “I’m Swiss” (both nominated for an Emmy® in the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special category), “Victory Begins at Home,” “Be More Cynical,” “The Golden Goose Special” and “Stuff That Struck Me Funny,” and two half-hour stand-up specials, plus the HBO specials “30 Seconds Over Washington” and “Comic Relief VI™.”
Maher also starred in the 2008 feature film “Religulous,” the seventh most successful documentary of all time.
