After seven years of being held hostage, Anderson finally tells his story to Explorer producers who recreate events from his harrowing ordeal.
Asked what gives him peace today, Anderson spoke of his love for horses in his farm, despite being kicked and thrown by them. He also shared a bit of the heavy personal fallout of his capture, and says he rarely recalls the anniversary unless someone calls him to remind him of the horrific events.
Anderson is a former Middle East correspondent for the AP who was stationed in Beirut. His dramatic story is featured in "American Hostage," a National Geographic Channel special airing January 17 as part of the historic long-running "Explorer" series, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary milestone this past year.
