Recap: Bones’ – The Twisted Bones In The Melted Truck
Did everyone get enough turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes last week when Bones wasn’t on? Okay, let’s not go there, shall we? Instead, let’s get into this week’s episode!
Here’s this episode’s summary from tv.com: “The team investigates a burned truck where the victim has melted into the dashboard. Finding the real cause of death, however, becomes problematic when even a gunshot wound is excluded. This sends Booth and Brennan to a local high school where the answers may lie in a forbidden relationship. Elsewhere, Hannah tries to bond with Parker, and Sweets tries to stay focused while coaching Daisy for a government-mandated examination..”
The one thing missing this week was Angela's pregnancy. Based on how predictable that storyline has been going so far, that wasn't a bad thing.
What's much more interesting to me is the reaction of Temperance to the bonding of Booth and Hannah. This week, Parker takes a liking to his Dad's new squeeze, and the ever-tightening relationship between the FBI agent and the reporter is starting to make Bones feel a little left out. It's intriguing because so far in her life, Temperance has been completely self-sufficient, breaking down life into small, manageable parts. But the heart isn't quite that scientific an organ.
To date, this hasn't affected their work relationship. But I can't see how these feelings that Brennan has won't spill over into it. We'll see.
As someone who truly disliked Sweets when he first arrived on the show, the psychologist has really turned into a vital part of the investigative team. This week, he uses his knowledge of Star Wars trading cards to find an important clue. So the guy who likes Shakespeare also is a "Star Warrior," as he put it. We're learning a lot about the humble mind doctor this season.
One of the funny plotlines focused on Sweets' girl, Daisy, as she prepared for her psych evaluation. At one point, Daisy hints that if she fails the test, she'll have to find another job. When Daisy wants something, Sweets can hardly deny her, so he coaches her some on what to say. Daisy can talk science with the best of them and, like Brennan, she's not good with people because she's extremely literal. It is fun to see someone who seems to be another up-and-coming Brennan interact with Bones as well as the other squints.
Of course, there's a murder mystery to be solved, and it starts with a truck that bursts into flame one morning. Apparently, the bones in the corpse have melted, something considered a physical impossibility by Brennan. Still, Daisy comes up with the solution to that concern, something she hopes will help her be cleared for work at the Institute.
The resolution to who murdered the victim is a good one, a nice surprise that will become obvious to those who pay attention to the details in this show. Let's just say that teachers shouldn't fool around with their students and not expect to pay some kind of price.
Does Daisy earn her clearance? A big clue--Sweets is very happy when the final result comes in.
Next week, Bones will air “The Doctor In The Photo.” Booth and Brennan investigate the mysterious death of a surgeon. His life and death challenge Brennan's legendary objectivity. As the team sifts through the evidence, Temperance identifies more and more with the brilliant doctor and her life, making her question some of her own choices
