Bones: The Babe in the Bar
By Wayne Hall Nov 19, 2010, 5:12 GMT

One of the fun things about “Bones” is that, following Temperance’s lead, facts aplenty are given to the viewers, including, unfortunately, the level of impurity allowed by the FDA in each chocolate bar. Yuck! And the episode title is very misleading—making one think the girl is in a local tavern. Good bit of misdirection there.
Recap: ‘Bones’ – The Babe In The Bar
You may never look at a chocolate bar the same way ever again. Yowza!
Here’s this episode’s summary from tv.com: “The team is called to Jimmy Walpert's Chocolate Factory, the site of the world's largest chocolate bar, when it turns out there's more than chocolate in the bar. Elsewhere, Cam is disturbed when Michelle chooses a college whose reputation is not for academic excellence.”

One of the fun things about “Bones” is that, following Temperance’s lead, facts aplenty are given to the viewers, including, unfortunately, the level of impurity allowed by the FDA in each chocolate bar. Okay, let’s get the dull part of the show out of the way immediately—Angela and Hodgins hosting a party to let their friends know she’s preggers. I mean, it is nice to see how the entire workgroup is an extended family, but there was absolutely no surprise in, well, the “no surprise” ending of that storyline. We all knew they knew but he didn’t know what they knew, so she told everyone to act like they didn’t know what they knew, so … ah, forget it! I am fast losing hope that there will be some intriguing twist or turn to this plotline. Sigh.
Also taking place this week was Cam’s adopted daughter choosing a college … far away from her mom. Unbeknown to her, Cam is applying to every school she believes her girl should be going to.
Hey, even Sweets gave Cam good advice—step back and let the young adult make her own choices! Good one, Sweets! (It was a good moment to see Sweets eating chocolate, the only time that anyone really did during this episode. Sweets … chocolate? Get it?)
Hannah’s in Germany with the president until she returns at the end of episode, which causes Booth to get back to her in a hurry “for sex,” as Temperance hastens to point out. Booth doesn’t disagree with that, and that may lead to an interesting confrontation next episode. One of the good things about this show is that Brennan’s freedom to be different from the cultural norms inspires the rest of the group to be open about who they are, and that’s always refreshing.
The character bits are fun, as always, including the “Yowza” references. There’s nothing better than a running gag to add some spice to a television episode, and the writers and actors know how to do it better than many others, thanks to their years of experience on the show. Nice balance there.
Again, it’s an intelligent mystery sprinkled with character moments, just why “Bones” remains the best on television today.
Next week, “Bones” takes the Thanksgiving holiday off! But be back the next Thursday night for “The Twisted Bones in the Melted Truck.” Brennan and Booth investigate a crime scene where a human carcass has melted to the dashboard of a charred truck.
Meanwhile, Sweets tries to keep his feelings for Daisy from interfering while helping her pass a government psychological evaluation.
