Denise Richards takes kinder stance with Charlie Sheen on TODAY, video

Charlie Sheen denies the severity of the Plaza Hotel bust up incident through a well-crafted statement released by his publicist.

His ex wife Denise Richards talked to Joy Behar last night (October 26) and the Today show October 27, and was unusually tight-lipped about the incident.

Sheen’s allegedly alcohol-fueled behavior at New York’s Plaza Hotel, called in by an unidentified woman (not Richards, as reported by some news outlets), netted him a hospital stay for "observation."

Denise Richards and her two young daughters were also guests at the Plaza, staying across the hall from Sheen’s hotel room.

But Richards, who during her divorce to the CBS star was very public with Sheen's dirty laundry list as a bad father and husband, was not so revealing today with TODAY's hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee.

According to Richards, the kids are unaware of dad's alleged incident and hospitalization. “My concern is to keep them protected,” she said on Today. “Thank God they’re five and six.”

Richards is a new star on Spike TV’s Blue Mountain State.

When pressed for more information on what happened, she shut the conversation down quickly.

“Charlie will always be a part of my life. We are binded together forever. It was unfortunate what happened.”

Many fans of Sheen are hoping his father Martin Sheen will talk some sense into Charlie, like he did in the 1980's film "Wall Street," when he confronts his son "Bud" (Charlie Sheen) in an elevator about measuring a man's worth by his wallet.
