Will another woman in Booth’s life mean a change in how Brennan works with him?
That’s the premise behind this week’s episode—in addition to unraveling the mystery behind a pair of skeletal remains.
Here’s this episode’s summary from tv.com: “A couple's remains that are discovered in a National Park cave create a double mystery: who are they and why were they killed? Elsewhere, Booth's girlfriend drops by, unexpectedly stateside from her assignment as a correspondent in Afghanistan, which leaves Brennan unsure of her relationship with Booth.”
There’s a wonderful running gag about the murdered man looking like George Clooney, which made me laugh out loud several times during the hour. It’s great when a program can balance suspense with humor like “Bones” does.
Looks like the rotating assistants are indeed back! We get to Dr. Edison, another of the folks who worked with Temperance previously, return just to work with her again.
The mystery is the usual looking for clues and working out just who this couple is, how they knew each other and just what happened to them. It’s an interesting trail of bread crumbs dealing with alcoholism, apparently incompatible people and potential suspects leading to a pretty interesting solution that I won’t give away here. Let’s just say that an unhappy and allergic mate as well as a Park ranger who suffered a loss in Afghanistan make for great suspects. And hey—what fun is spoiling the conclusion when reviewing a procedural show?
Sweets has shaved off his goatee, but he’s still trying to figure out how to deal with Daisy. It’s funny that he now seeks counsel from Booth, which is a role reversal that leads to touching comedic moments.
But the interesting part of the hour had to do with Booth and Hannah, the journalist he connected while in Afghanistan. Katheryn Winnick does a great job as the blonde bombshell who wows every guy she meets, but can she win over Booth’s heart as well as his body?
As confident as Brennan normally is, when she meets Hannah, she feels threatened with change, something unusual for Bones. And it does impact her--Brennan snaps at Dr. Edison, something unusual for her. By the end of the episode, we have to wonder whether Temperance has faced what the loss of what she’s known with Booth will mean despite her attempts to rise above it all intellectually. Tune in next week for more on this continuing storyline!
Speaking of next week: “The Maggots In The Meathead,” when Brennan and Booth look into the death of a young man whose decomposing body is found near a local night club.
