Casey Affleck and Ed Helms stopped by "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (Monday-Friday, 11:35 p.m. ET) tonight, September 21.
Affleck did some damage control about his film "I'm Still Here," which was recently revealed to be a mockumentary about brother-in-law and actor Joaquin Phoenix, and gave insight as to how he thought viewers would react.
On the movie being described as a hoax, Affleck stated, "We just wanted to make a movie that would help people kind of suspend their disbelief. They could go to the theater; they could experience it – sort of wonder whether it was real or not."
When Leno asked if he wanted people to think the movie was real, Affleck replied, "I wanted them to think it was real while they were watching it."
He added, "It was a little bit surprising when people were still asking, 'is this a hoax or not a hoax?'"
Just a waste of many people's time.
Also on the show, Ed Helms gave viewers a musical sneak piece from the season 7 premiere of "The Office."
