"The Event" sparked an event of its own for fans of Blair Underwood, who turned out 500 strong to support the hometown kid and NBC's mysterious thriller series.
Fans arrived at Virginia State University's Daniel Gymnasium Saturday night to see Blair Underwood and his family and watch a screening of the pilot from his new TV series, according to NBC.
NBC is promoting this series in some new ways, and one promotional idea involved an online contest to determine the location of five special screenings of the pilot. Underwood's own father launched a campaign to win the contest and the result was a screening in Underwood's hometown of Petersburg, Virginia.

Petersburg was the top vote getter in the contest, followed by Oklahoma City, New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago.

"The Event" sees Underwood cast as President Elias Martinez, a leader is being undermined by other Federal government offices.
"The Event" premieres on NBC, Monday, September 20th, 2010 at 9:00 pm ET.
