The HIV rates in the African-American community and the "whys" of it were the fodder for morning chat show "The View" on June 22.
Comedian D.L. Hughley along with the ladies of The View discussed the possibilities that 'down low" men were bringing home HIV to their wives/girlfriends from their sexual encounters with men.
Now GLAAD has taken an ad out in Variety blasting the show.
'The View' co-host Sherri Shepherd and guest host D.L. Hughley blamed increased HIV rates as a problem that was exacerbated by the behavior of black men in denial about their sexuality.
GLAAD, the National Black Justice Coalition and the Black AIDS Institute together placed the ad slamming "The View" for comments made during its June 22 episode.
Shepherd noted, "It's so big in the black community with women because they're having sex with men who have been having sex with men."
GLAAD wrote in their ad that the prevalence was more male partners with female partners who are injecting drugs or using drugs or have some other risks that may put those female partners at risk of acquiring HIV.
GLAAD has tried to mount a campaign to have ABC and The View retract their comments.
