Elijah Wood, has landed the lead role in the upcoming FX comedy pilot, “Wilfred.”
The series is a redo U.S. version of the Australian series.
Side note: Lord of the Rings actor Wood, who played Frodo Baggins in the famous trilogy, has the most poreless luminous skin in all of Hollywood per hair and makeup designer Peter King, who told me this in a past interview long ago for the trade newspaper, "Below the Line."
Wilfred is a romantic comedy about a boy who dresses up as a dog. Wilfred the boy/dog will be played by Jason Gann. Wood will star as Ryan, (Australian version is played by Adam Zwar), who also writes the series. Wood's character Ryan is the only one who can sees that Wilfred is actually a human dressed as a dog.
The pilot episode will be shot this summer 2010 and is Wood’s first role on the smallscreen. The co-creator of the original “Wilfred,” Jason Gann will also appear in the remake in the title role.
Other big film stars making the TV series commitment are William H. Macy for Showtime' US version of a UK series, "Shameless," Laura Linney, Oliver Platt and Gabourey Sidibe for Showtime's “The Big C” and Steve Buscemi in HBO's “Boardwalk Empire.”
